Think about how you spend your time every day. How much of those 24 hours do you actually spend on yourself? It can be anything from making your favorite cup of coffee every morning, to exercising, to reading a book, to dancing to your favorite song. How much of your life is dedicated to focusing on you and only you? Self-care is often misconstrued with selfishness. The notion that you're not allowed to do things for yourself has put most people in an inauspicious situation as they move throughout their lives and careers. Everyone's afraid to do things for themselves in fear of a "selfish" or "loner" stigma. However, the moment we lose touch with ourselves is the moment that our lives begin to lose meaning.
Self-care is essential to our well-being. We often take for granted our bodies, our minds, and our souls to indulge in activities and tasks that fail to uplift us. Stress has become a burden that we're used to carrying, sleep has become a right that we're willing to give up, and health has become a critical part our lives that we're willing to compromise. But in order to be the best versions of ourselves, in order to please others, in order to perform at our highest level, we have to take care of ourselves. Because happiness and strength can only be gained from within.
